Ethiopia Guji Uraga Washed G1 (227g)
Medium Light Roast
Guji is found in the southern region of Yirgacheffe, and the spotlight has undoubtedly been shining on this region in recent years. The locals there are the Guji Oromo people and coffee is the core crop of these indigenous highlanders. In the past decades, the coffee produced by Guji has been categorized under the Sidamo production region. However regardless of geographical location, planting methods or coffee aroma, Guji Yirgacheffe coffee is distinctive and vastly different from Sidamo Yirgacheffe coffee. After several years of convincing the Ethiopian government, in 2010, justice was served and Guji coffee was allowed to carry a logo different from that of Sidamo coffee. Guji has a complex topography peppered with high mountain ranges, high lands, high plains, valleys and flatlands. The soil in the region is rich in nutrients and known as Vertisol with a depth of nearly two meters. The average altitude in the region is 1,800 meters and above. Owing to its geography, there is a stark difference in daytime and night-time temperatures, equipping it with the requisite conditions to cultivate high quality specialty coffee. The greatest advantage of Guji is the ability for the nutrients in its soil to regenerate itself through organic processes by making use of the surrounding withered leaves and trees as natural fertilizers.
